The 2024 Major League Baseball All-Star Game is scheduled to take place on Tuesday, July 16, at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas. This will mark the first time since 1934 that the MLB All-Star Game is hosted by the defending World Series champions. Bruce Bochy, manager of the Rangers, will lead the American League team, while Torey Lovullo of the Diamondbacks will manage the National League team.
The position-player starters for the Midsummer Classic were announced after two phases of fan voting. The pitchers and reserves will be revealed on Sunday, July 7, at 5:30 p.m. ET.
Shohei Ohtani was the overwhelming choice as the NL designated hitter. This will be his fourth consecutive All-Star Game start, but his first on the NL side after moving from the Angels to the Dodgers in the offseason.
Aaron Judge and Juan Soto of the Yankees were also popular picks, with both players securing spots in the AL outfield. Judge will be making his sixth All-Star appearance, while Soto will be playing in his fourth. Judge, along with Bryce Harper, earned automatic berths after winning their respective league voting in Phase 1.
There is some uncertainty surrounding Harper’s participation in the game, as he is currently on the injured list. However, the team has indicated that his injury is minor, and he may return in time for the All-Star break. This would be Harper’s eighth All-Star selection.
Jose Altuve leads this group of starters with nine All-Star selections, while first-time All-Stars include Gunnar Henderson, Alec Bohm, Jurickson Profar, and Steven Kwan.
