WASHINGTON — The U.S. women’s national soccer team endured scorching temperatures in Washington D.C. as they prepared for the upcoming 2024 Paris Olympics. Despite facing Costa Rica in intense heat, the USWNT drew 0-0 in their final pre-Olympic match here on Tuesday night. The players coped with the extreme weather conditions by dousing themselves with water and using towels to stay cool amidst a heat wave sweeping the United States.

Midfielder Sam Coffey described the experience as tough, emphasizing the challenging conditions they faced. Head coach Emma Hayes viewed the extreme heat as ideal preparation for the climate they would encounter in Marseille during the Olympics. Despite the difficulties, the team acknowledged the importance of adapting to such conditions for their upcoming matches.

As the USWNT prepared to depart for France, concerns about heat-related issues at the Paris Olympics loomed large. With temperatures in Paris varying widely in previous years, the team braced themselves for potential challenges. However, current forecasts indicated milder weather conditions, offering some relief ahead of the Games.

Both the U.S. men’s and women’s teams would be competing in the south of France, facing high temperatures during their group stage matches. The players were aware of the need to acclimate to the heat and adjust their training schedules accordingly.

Despite the grueling conditions they faced in Washington, the USWNT remained focused on their ultimate goal of success in Marseille. The team’s resilience and determination shone through as they navigated the challenges posed by the intense heat during their pre-Olympic preparations.
