In the latest update on NBA All-Star voting, Giannis Antetokounmpo of the Milwaukee Bucks and Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets are leading the Eastern and Western Conference players, respectively. Antetokounmpo has received 1,710,630 votes, making him the top-voted player overall, while Jokic follows closely with 1,422,121 votes. The NBA released these initial voting results on Thursday.

Among Eastern Conference players, Jayson Tatum of the Boston Celtics and Karl-Anthony Towns of the New York Knicks are trailing behind Antetokounmpo but are significantly ahead of other frontcourt players. In the guard category, LaMelo Ball of the Charlotte Hornets has the highest number of votes, with Donovan Mitchell of the Cleveland Cavaliers in second place and Damian Lillard of the Milwaukee Bucks not far behind.

Over in the Western Conference, Kevin Durant of the Phoenix Suns is around 150,000 votes shy of Jokic’s total, with LeBron James of the Los Angeles Lakers ranking third among frontcourt players. Anthony Davis, James’ teammate, is approximately 17,000 votes behind him, while Victor Wembanyama of the San Antonio Spurs trails Davis by about 71,000 votes. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander of the Oklahoma City Thunder leads all backcourt players in votes, with Luka Doncic of the Dallas Mavericks holding a 60,000-vote lead over Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors for the second spot in the West.

The All-Star Game format for this year will feature a new structure. Instead of a single game, there will be a mini-tournament involving three eight-player All-Star teams, to be drafted by Charles Barkley, Kenny Smith, and Shaquille O’Neal, along with the winner of the Rising Stars challenge. The selection process for All-Stars remains the same, with 10 starters (three frontcourt players and two guards in each conference) chosen by fan vote (50%), current NBA players (25%), and media members (25%). The reserves will be selected by NBA coaches.

The next update on voting will be announced on Jan. 9, with the voting period closing on Jan. 20. The starters will be revealed on Jan. 23, and the reserves on Jan. 30. The All-Star Game is scheduled to take place on Feb. 16 at Chase Center in San Francisco.
