5 things we learned from Premier League opening weekend

The 2024/25 Premier League season got underway over the weekend, and it did not disappoint. There were late dramas, comfortable wins, implosions, and surprises all across the country. Here are five things we learned from the opening weekend:

1. Joshua Zirkzee made a memorable Premier League debut by scoring the winning goal for Manchester United against Fulham. His ability to link up play will be crucial for the Red Devils this season.

2. Kai Havertz seems to have secured the number nine role at Arsenal after a strong finish to the previous season and a goal in the opening game against Wolves. His form is undeniable and should not be replaced.

3. Brighton looks rejuvenated after rebuilding their midfield with Mats Wieffer and Yankuba Minteh, who both impressed in their 3-0 win over Everton. They look like a dynamic team under new boss Fabian Hurzeler.

4. Liverpool struggled in midfield during their match against Ipswich Town, highlighting the need for reinforcements in that area. Without a quality ‘number six,’ they may struggle against top teams like Man City and Arsenal.

5. Chelsea’s start to the season has been chaotic, with issues ranging from player statements to defeats on the pitch. The club seems to be in disarray, and it’s unclear when things will improve.

Overall, the opening weekend provided plenty of excitement and drama, setting the stage for an intriguing season ahead.
