Feyenoord sack Slot successor two days before Champions League playoff

Feyenoord has made the decision to part ways with manager Brian Priske just two days before their crucial Champions League play-off match against AC Milan. The club cited a “lack of chemistry” between Priske and the team as the reason for his dismissal. Priske took over from Arne Slot less than eight months ago but failed to meet expectations, with Feyenoord currently trailing in the Eredivisie standings.

Despite some notable victories in the Champions League, including a dramatic comeback against Manchester City, Feyenoord’s overall performance under Priske has been inconsistent. The club’s technical director, Dennis te Kloese, expressed disappointment over the situation but emphasized the need for change.

On the other hand, Arne Slot, who previously led Feyenoord to a successful third-place finish in the league and the Conference League final, has a strong track record with the club. He won the Eredivisie and Dutch Cup during his tenure and was recognized as the Eredivisie Manager of the Year in consecutive seasons.

Feyenoord faces a tough challenge against AC Milan in the upcoming play-off tie, with the first leg taking place at De Kuip. The club will be looking to bounce back under new leadership and secure a spot in the Champions League round of 16.
