Team Chuck strikes first
Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Victor Wembanyama led Team Chuck to a 42-31 victory over Team Kenny in the first semifinal of the NBA All-Star Game. Gilgeous-Alexander’s 12 points, including the game-winning dunk, secured the win for Charles Barkley’s team.
Wembanyama showcased some actual defense in his All-Star debut, finishing with six points, four rebounds, and a block on Cade Cunningham. Team Chuck advances to the championship game against the winner of the second semifinal between Team Candace and Team Shaq.
How the new All-Star format works
The 74th NBA All-Star Game features a new tournament-style format with teams drafted by Charles Barkley, Shaquille O’Neal, and Kenny Smith. LeBron James, despite earning his 21st All-Star nod, will not be participating due to ankle soreness.
The tournament consists of three games, with the first team to reach or surpass 40 points winning each matchup. The championship-winning team will receive $125,000 per player, with prize money for other placements as well.
