Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander reportedly splits with agent, set to represent himself ahead of supermax deal

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has decided to become his own agent, as reported by NBA insider Chris Haynes. The Oklahoma City Thunder star has parted ways with his representation and will handle his on-court matters himself in the future.

The reasons for the split are unclear, but Gilgeous-Alexander has stated that he will continue to use separate representation for off-court deals.

With the possibility of signing a lucrative four-year, $294.3 million supermax extension with the Thunder this summer, negotiations for his next deal may be straightforward. Since the price is predetermined by the league, there may not be much room for negotiation. By representing himself, Gilgeous-Alexander can avoid paying agent fees on a deal that appears to be already set.

It remains to be seen whether this move is a long-term strategy for Gilgeous-Alexander or if he will consider hiring a new agent in the future when dealing with more complex contracts.

Having a standout season with a career-high 32.5 points per game, Gilgeous-Alexander is a top scorer in the league and a contender for MVP. He has also been averaging 6.1 assists and 5.1 rebounds, and recently achieved three 50-point games in a month. At 26 years old, he is currently in his seventh NBA season and has earned his third consecutive All-Star selection.

Following the All-Star break, Gilgeous-Alexander and the Thunder will face the Utah Jazz with a strong record of 44-10, holding an eight-game lead in the Western Conference standings.
