Muhammad Mokaev: UFC let me go to ‘teach me a lesson to be more mature’ — but ‘they gave me more than a lesson’

Muhammad Mokaev’s career took a major hit in 2024 when the UFC chose not to re-sign him after his victory over Manel Kape at UFC 304. Despite his 7-0 record in the UFC and being close to a title shot, pre-fight antics and lack of excitement in his fighting style were cited as possible reasons for his departure. Mokaev denied rumors of negotiating with PFL while under UFC contract and expressed his willingness to improve and bring more excitement to his fights.

Since leaving the UFC, Mokaev has expressed his desire to return through social media but has not had a direct conversation with Dana White. However, he has spoken with UFC officials Hunter Campbell and Mick Maynard, who hinted at the possibility of a return in the future. Although he declined offers from PFL and ONE Championship, Mokaev remains optimistic about a potential UFC comeback and continues to showcase his dominance in organizations like Brave CF.

Despite the financial incentives offered by other promotions, Mokaev’s ultimate goal is to be the best in the world and fight in the UFC. With the support of Sheikh Khaled and the freedom to return to the UFC if the opportunity arises, Mokaev remains focused on achieving his dream of becoming a world champion in MMA.

My dream is priceless to me, even if I were to be paid ten times more – the cost of being the best in the world is more than just money.

If Mokaev had stayed with the UFC, he would have faced current flyweight champion Alexandre Pantoja for the title. However, Pantoja recently defended his title for the third time by submitting Kai Asakura with a rear-naked choke in the second round at UFC 310.

Several fighters, including the likely next UFC title challenger Kai Kara-France, have shared their opinions on Mokaev’s departure. Kara-France called Mokaev “boring” on “The Ariel Helwani Show” in December.

While Mokaev respects Kara-France as a fighter, he believes he is the only one who can defeat Pantoja in the division.

“Kai Kara-France is a talented fighter with good striking abilities, but Pantoja is relentless and tough to beat with his pressure,” Mokaev stated.
