Robin van Persie has made a triumphant return to Feyenoord, his former club, as their new coach following his release from Heerenveen. The 41-year-old Dutchman has inked a contract until June 2027 and will be supported by assistant coach Rene Hake, who previously worked with Erik ten Hag at Manchester United.

Van Persie expressed his excitement about rejoining Feyenoord, stating, “Everyone knows how special my bond with Feyenoord is. I am eager to work with the players and achieve success together with a strong staff.”

Feyenoord’s general manager, Dennis te Kloese, praised Van Persie’s appointment, stating, “We are thrilled to have a true club icon like Robin van Persie as our new coach. His extensive international experience and deep understanding of the club make him an ideal fit for us. His soccer philosophy aligns perfectly with Feyenoord’s vision of attacking, well-organized soccer combined with determination and intensity.”

Van Persie had initially signed a two-year deal with Heerenveen at the beginning of the season. However, the club’s struggles, including a heavy defeat and cup elimination, led to his departure. Van Persie, who scored 46 goals in 123 appearances for Feyenoord, has also played for top clubs like Arsenal, Manchester United, and Fenerbahce.

Feyenoord is currently positioned third in the Dutch league, trailing leaders Ajax Amsterdam by 11 points with a game in hand. They are set to face Inter Milan in the Champions League round of 16 next month.
