Last week, we shone a spotlight on five NBA rookies who have been making waves this season in various ways.
Of course, there are more rookies worth discussing, even if they might not be as close to the top tier or have the same potential to reach great heights.
Here are five additional names that should be on your radar:
Zach Edey, Memphis Grizzlies, 9th overall pick
Standing at an impressive 7-foot-4 and weighing 300 pounds, Edey dominates the paint on both offense and defense, averaging 9.1 points and 7.7 rebounds per game while shooting an impressive 57.3%. All this in just 20.5 minutes per game.
While concerns about his foot speed and defensive capabilities still linger, Edey’s efficiency on the court speaks for itself. He may not have superstar potential, but he could certainly develop into a reliable starter putting up solid numbers.
Matas Buzelis, Chicago Bulls, 11th overall pick
Buzelis has shown flashes of his potential with his athleticism and versatility, but consistency has been an issue. Despite averaging 6.5 points and 2.9 rebounds in just over 15 minutes per game, he has room to grow and could make a significant leap in his second year.
With the Bulls undergoing changes and looking towards the future, it’s time to give Buzelis more playing time to unlock his full potential and see what he can bring to the team.
Carlton “Bub” Carrington, Washington Wizards, 14th overall pick
At just 19 years old, Carrington has already started 39 games for the Wizards, showcasing his all-around game with 9.1 points, 4 rebounds, and 3.9 assists per game. While his efficiency may not be top-notch, he is getting valuable experience that will benefit him in the long run.
As a big guard with rebounding skills and improved playmaking, Carrington has the potential to carve out a successful career, whether as a point guard or a combo guard.
Kel’el Ware, Miami Heat, 15th overall pick
Ware’s raw potential as a 7-foot center with shooting range and shot-blocking abilities makes him a tantalizing prospect. While he hasn’t seen much playing time yet, he has the tools to become a special player in the future.
Although the Heat may be cautious with his development this season, Ware’s long-term outlook is promising, and Miami could be the perfect fit for his growth as a player.
Yves Missi, New Orleans Pelicans, 21st overall pick
Missi’s arrival has been a boon for the Pelicans, providing them with a solid center who can anchor their defense for years to come. With his work ethic and defensive prowess, Missi has the potential to have a productive career, even if he doesn’t reach superstar status.
Whether he develops into a star or a reliable starter, Missi’s contributions will be invaluable to a Pelicans team in need of stability and value late in the draft.
The best of the rest
Dalton Knecht, Lakers: A scoring threat who could become a consistent 20-point scorer in the future.
Ron Holland, Pistons: An athletic player with potential to be a three-level scorer and solid rebounder.
Donovan Clingan, Trail Blazers: A rebounding specialist who needs more playing time to showcase his scoring abilities.
Tristan da Silva, Magic: A smart player with a reliable shot and willingness to play off teammates.
Ryan Dunn, Suns: A defensive standout with a developing outside shot, poised for a long NBA career.
