Demetrious Johnson believes Henry Cejudo should retire after UFC Seattle loss: ‘The man almost went blind’

Demetrious Johnson believes Henry Cejudo should consider retiring after his recent fight at UFC Seattle.

Johnson, who has faced Cejudo twice and now considers him a friend, shared his thoughts on Cejudo’s technical decision loss to Song Yadong due to an accidental eye poke.

In a video on his YouTube channel, Johnson pondered whether Cejudo should hang up his gloves for good.

“I would like to see him retire,” Johnson expressed. “He has a successful podcast, a loving family, and thriving businesses. There’s no need for him to continue risking his health in the octagon.”

Cejudo initially retired in May 2020 after defeating Dominick Cruz at UFC 249. However, he returned to the octagon and suffered consecutive losses to Aljamain Sterling, Merab Dvalishvili, and Song Yadong.

Despite his achievements as an Olympic gold medalist and two-division UFC champion, Johnson believes Cejudo has nothing left to prove in the sport.

“He has accomplished more than most fighters ever will,” Johnson noted. “It’s important to prioritize his health over the lure of money and fame.”

As Cejudo contemplates his future in MMA, Johnson’s words serve as a reminder of the importance of self-care and knowing when to walk away from the sport.
