New FBI director Kash Patel is considering enhancing agent training by partnering with the UFC.
Patel proposed the idea during a teleconference with FBI field office heads, suggesting that UFC fighters and coaches could assist in martial arts training and fitness programs for agents.
Former FBI special agent Rich Frankel noted that the UFC’s specific fitness programs could benefit the agency.
The UFC has a close relationship with the current administration, with UFC CEO Dana White’s friendship with President Donald Trump.
Trump has attended multiple UFC events and has praised the athletes in the organization.
While a formal FBI-UFC relationship would be new, many MMA athletes and trainers have worked with law enforcement in the past.
For example, Greg Jackson has taught self-defense to police officers in New Mexico, while John McCarthy has worked as an LAPD tactics and self-defense instructor.
It is unclear when Patel may implement a partnership with the UFC as he settles into his new role as FBI director.
