Liverpool equaled a 90-year-old record during their 3-1 win against Southampton in the Premier League on Saturday, with Mohamed Salah also making history by scoring two goals in the game.
The Reds came from behind to secure a victory at Anfield, extending their lead at the top of the Premier League to 16 points ahead of their upcoming match against Manchester United.
Southampton took the lead just before half-time through Will Smallbone, but Liverpool responded strongly in the second half to turn the game around.
Darwin Nunez equalized and won a penalty shortly after the break, with Salah converting both penalties to seal the win for Liverpool.
Liverpool’s performance saw them equal an English football record that has stood for 90 years, scoring two or more goals in 19 consecutive matches at Anfield in all competitions.
Salah’s two goals in the game also saw him become Liverpool’s third-highest goalscorer of all time, with 243 goals to his name.
Additionally, Salah equaled the record for the most goal contributions in a 38-game season and became the foreign player with the joint-most goals in Premier League history, matching Sergio Aguero.
With his impressive performance, Salah now leads the race for the Premier League Golden Boot, seven goals ahead of Erling Haaland.
