Paris Saint-Germain’s journey in the Champions League was plagued with failures until Tuesday. It was a decade of disappointments, with high expectations left unmet. The team struggled to find cohesion amongst its megastars and superteams, leading to their departure by 2024. But on Tuesday, PSG showed that they have evolved.

They shocked Liverpool with an early goal, overcame a first-leg deficit, and eliminated the Premier League leaders from the Champions League. Winning the second leg 1-0 and securing victory in the penalty shootout.

The players who remained, overshadowed in the past by stars like Kylian Mbappé and Lionel Messi, showcased their skills at Anfield on a memorable night. They played with determination and composure, earning the result they deserved after dominating the first leg.

In the previous match, Liverpool’s goalkeeper Alisson made crucial saves as PSG outshot the Reds 27-2 but still lost 1-0. Despite the setback, PSG’s players remained confident, telling each other: “We’ll win next week.” Their performance on Tuesday proved that they are among the elite teams in the world.

Ousmane Dembélé, once criticized for his inconsistency, scored the opening goal in the 12th minute. Liverpool threatened throughout the game but PSG’s defense held firm for 120 minutes.

The penalty shootout saw Vitinha and Gonçalo Ramos convert their kicks calmly. Dembélé showcased his composure by scoring with precision, while goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma made crucial saves to send PSG through.

The team, led by coach Luis Enrique, has transformed into a cohesive unit with new stars like Dembélé, Achraf Hakimi, and Nuno Mendes. They have proven themselves on the big stage, overcoming the absence of former key players.
