Marcelo Teixeira, the president of Santos, has praised Neymar as “happy”, “joyful”, and “committed” to the Brazilian club amidst rumors of a potential move to Europe.
After a disappointing spell at Al Hilal, Neymar returned to Vila Belmiro on a short-term deal until 30 June following a serious ACL injury in Saudi Arabia. His impressive performances have attracted interest from clubs across Europe, including Barcelona and Bayern Munich, but Santos is eager to extend his contract.
Teixeira stated, “The hardest part was getting him here. We are now focusing on the club’s performance and results. Neymar has shown his commitment, and we are working on sponsorships without financial concerns.”
Teixeira emphasized Neymar’s commitment to Santos, stating that the entire technical committee and the country are behind him. This support could play a crucial role in Neymar’s decision to stay at the club in the future, especially with the national team calling him back.
Financial considerations do not seem to be Neymar’s primary motivation, as Teixeira mentioned that Santos cannot match the offers from foreign clubs. Neymar’s decision is more about his emotional connection to the club.
Despite interest from Barcelona, Santos maintains a positive relationship with the club. Barcelona has set a goal for Neymar to score 15 goals by the end of the season before entering negotiations. Neymar has already scored three times.
