Major League Baseball is once again using the end of the exhibition season to showcase the talent of the future. Spring Breakout 2025 is a four-day prospect showcase featuring 16 games, with each team fielding their top young players. The event kicks off on Thursday, March 13, and will give fans a glimpse of the stars of tomorrow.
Every team will participate in at least one game, except for the Washington Nationals and Chicago Cubs, who will play two games due to the odd number of teams in the Grapefruit and Cactus Leagues. These games are usually played as part of a doubleheader, following the MLB squads’ contests. Fans can watch all the Spring Breakout games via streaming or televised broadcasts to see the future of Major League Baseball in action. (Access the complete Spring Breakout schedule here.)
“Spring Breakout provides a unique opportunity to showcase the game’s future stars as they progress towards the Major Leagues,” said MLB commissioner Rob Manfred. “Fans will have the chance to meet our top prospects, collect autographs, and witness the next generation of MLB players up close. We are excited that Major League Baseball, Minor League Baseball, and all our Clubs are collaborating to promote the game and spotlight our future All-Stars.”
Last week, MLB released the rosters for this year’s Spring Breakout. While all games will feature exciting matchups, below are the top five pairings we are most looking forward to, along with details on how to tune in. Throughout the article, we will refer to our recent ranking of the top 50 prospects in the game.
Let’s dive in.
The game: Red Sox vs. Rays (7:05 p.m. ET, Thurs., March 13)
The opening game offers a great opportunity for casual viewers to witness some of the best prospects in action. The Red Sox-Rays matchup will feature four of the top 10 prospects in the league: outfielder Roman Anthony (No. 1), utility player Kristian Campbell (No. 3), and infielder Marcelo Mayer (No. 10) from the Red Sox, and shortstop Carson Williams (No. 5) from the Rays. All four players have the potential to make their MLB debut this season, setting the stage for future battles in the American League East.
2. 2B Travis Bazzana (CLE) vs. SS Colt Emerson (SEA)
The Mariners-Guardians game on Friday, March 14, could be a preview of a future All-Star double-play combination. Bazzana, the top pick in last year’s draft and our No. 12 prospect, has impressive hitting skills and plate discipline. Emerson, our No. 7 prospect, is known for his left-handed bat and defensive abilities at shortstop. In addition to these two standouts, both teams will showcase other promising prospects during the game.
3. SS Sebastian Walcott (TEX) vs. 1B Bryce Eldridge (SF)
The Rangers-Giants matchup on Saturday, March 15, will feature two potential middle-of-the-order stars. Walcott, ranked No. 20 on our list, held his own against older competition last season and showcases offensive potential. Eldridge, our No. 27 prospect, transitioned from a two-way player to focus on hitting, a decision that has paid off. Both players could make their MLB debut this year, making this game a must-watch for fans.
The game: Reds vs. Brewers (7:40 p.m. ET, Sun. March 16)
For fans who enjoy explosive matchups, the Reds-Brewers game on Sunday, March 16, is not to be missed. Burns, our No. 15 prospect and a recent top draft pick, has already showcased his elite pitching velocity. Made, our No. 36 prospect, has tremendous potential and could become a cornerstone player for his team. Get acquainted with these rising stars now, as they are set to make an impact in the majors soon.
The game: Rockies vs. White Sox (5:05 p.m. ET, Sun., March 16)
This game presents an exciting pitching duel between Dollander, ranked 16th on our top-50 list, and Schultz, ranked 31st. Both pitchers possess quality sliders and a knack for strikeouts. Dollander dominated last season with a high strikeout rate, while Schultz, a left-handed pitcher, consistently racks up strikeouts. With both pitchers expected to debut in the MLB this season, this game offers a glimpse of the promising future ahead.
