After an impressive 11-year career in MMA, UFC veteran Molly McCann has decided to hang up her gloves. The announcement came at UFC London, where she revealed her retirement following a first-round submission loss to Alexia Thainara.

McCann leaves the sport with a 14-8 record, with seven of those years spent competing in the UFC. Her retirement speech, delivered with emotion and sincerity, captured the hearts of fans and fellow fighters alike.

Reflecting on her journey, McCann expressed gratitude for the opportunities she had been given and the support she had received throughout her career. She also expressed a desire to continue working with the UFC as an ambassador.

Originally a soccer player with Liverpool, McCann transitioned to MMA after an ankle injury ended her soccer career. Her nickname “Meatball” stemmed from her job at Subway and quickly became a beloved moniker in the MMA world.

Known for her entertaining fighting style and charismatic personality, McCann made a lasting impact on the flyweight and strawweight divisions. She accumulated several notable wins and earned multiple bonuses for her performances, including a Fight of the Night accolade.

Despite facing some setbacks in her recent fights, McCann’s legacy as a fierce competitor and fan favorite will endure. At 34 years old, she leaves behind a legacy that will inspire aspiring fighters, especially young girls who dream of making their mark in the sport.
