Cain Velasquez’s long-awaited verdict was announced on Monday, with the former UFC heavyweight champion being sentenced to five years in prison for attempted murder and other charges related to a 2022 incident involving Harry Goularte. Velasquez, 42, was accused of attempting to shoot Goularte, who was alleged to have molested Velasquez’s young son on multiple occasions.

The sentencing followed a high-speed car chase during which Velasquez fired shots at Goularte and his companions, resulting in injuries to Goularte’s stepfather. Despite the severity of the charges, Velasquez’s sentence took into account time already served, reducing his remaining time behind bars. The case has also led to a civil lawsuit filed by Velasquez’s family against the Goularte family.

Velasquez’s agent, Mike Fonseca, released a statement expressing relief at the conclusion of the trial and praising Velasquez’s integrity and accountability in the face of difficult circumstances. The statement highlighted Velasquez’s journey from a humble background to becoming a UFC champion and emphasized his commitment to helping others.

Velasquez, known for his accomplishments in the UFC heavyweight division, has faced challenges throughout his career due to injuries. Despite his retirement from professional fighting, he remains a respected figure in the MMA community.
