Alex Pereira responded to accusations from Magomed Ankalaev’s coach about greasing during their UFC 313 fight.
Pereira suffered a loss to Ankalaev in their light heavyweight title bout by unanimous decision at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
In an interview with Ushatayka, Sukhrab Magomedov, Ankalaev’s coach, alleged that Pereira had a sticky substance on his body to prevent takedowns, even implicating Pereira’s mentor Glover Teixeira in greasing.
Despite successfully defending against all 12 of Ankalaev’s takedown attempts, Pereira denied any wrongdoing.
During an interview on “The Ariel Helwani Show”, Pereira stated, “Absolutely did not put anything on my body.” He criticized Ankalaev’s coach for making excuses and emphasized his commitment to fair play throughout his career.
Pereira and Ankalaev are likely to have a rematch, as confirmed by UFC CEO Dana White, with Ankalaev acknowledging Pereira as the most deserving opponent.
