The upcoming UFC Fight Night event in Kansas City, Missouri, has undergone a change in its main event.
Set to take place on April 26 at the T-Mobile Center, Ian Machado Garry will make his return to the octagon to face the rising star Carlos Prates in an electrifying welterweight headliner. This new main event replaces the originally scheduled Jamahal Hill vs. Khalil Rountree matchup. The promotion officially announced this update on Tuesday.
Hailing from Ireland, Machado Garry (15-1 MMA, 8-1 UFC) is looking to bounce back from the first loss of his professional career. At UFC 310 in December, he suffered a defeat on the judges’ scorecards against the unbeaten Shavkat Rakhmonov in a fight billed as a title eliminator. Machado Garry had an impressive start in the UFC with eight consecutive wins, including three finishes.
On the other side, Brazil’s Prates (21-6 MMA, 4-0 UFC) had a remarkable debut year in 2024, securing four victories with stoppages and Performance of the Night bonuses. Trevin Giles, Charles Radtke, Li Jingliang, and Neil Magny were all defeated before the end of the second round.
