Philadelphia 76ers guard Tyrese Maxey will miss the remainder of the season due to a finger injury, as reported by ESPN. Maxey has been sidelined since March 3 due to a lower back sprain and a sprained finger on his right hand, which ESPN described as a “finger tendon injury.”

Before the Sixers’ recent game against the Milwaukee Bucks, head coach Nurse did not confirm the report, stating, “He’s just out for this evening,” according to PHLY’s Kyle Neubeck.

Nurse added, “He did have another workout, and I think I mentioned before, the first one didn’t go that great. He had another one. He did receive more imaging as well. But our medical team has informed me that he’s out for tonight.”

When asked if the ESPN report was inaccurate, Nurse replied, “I don’t know. I’m just telling you what they told me: that he’s out for this evening.”

Looking back at the season, Maxey’s performance in the 52 games he played mirrored last year’s statistics. He averaged 26.3 points, 3.3 rebounds, 6.1 assists, and 1.8 steals per game while playing an average of 37.7 minutes. Additionally, he showed improvement defensively and exhibited better shooting from midrange.

The Sixers had high hopes for Maxey, Joel Embiid, and Paul George forming a championship-worthy trio this season. However, injuries prevented this from materializing, with Maxey only sharing the court with Embiid for 389 minutes in 16 games. The team’s disappointing season also saw Embiid requiring another knee surgery.

Despite the challenges, the Sixers are on track to secure a high draft pick due to their poor record this season. With a focus on creating a healthier offensive environment for Maxey in the future, the team aims for a more successful season in 2025-26. The team also looks forward to the return of promising guard Jared McCain, who was sidelined by a season-ending knee injury earlier.
