Mohamed Salah has reportedly turned down an opportunity to become the second-highest paid player in the world by opting to stay at Liverpool.

After months of speculation, numerous teasing interviews, and growing concern from the fans, Salah seems close to extending his contract at Liverpool.

Reports on Wednesday indicated a breakthrough in negotiations for a new deal for Salah and his teammate Virgil van Dijk before they become free agents this summer.

Salah’s future has been complicated by competing offers, with European clubs and Saudi Pro League clubs vying for his signature.

According to Egyptian journalist Ismael Mahmoud, Salah could have earned €150m (£128.5m) annually by moving to Saudi Arabia, making him one of the highest-paid players in the world.

Mahmoud also revealed that Salah’s new expected salary is £400,000 per week in his upcoming Liverpool contract.

The Athletic reported that Salah is close to signing a new two-year deal, providing stability for both the player and the club.

Liverpool’s willingness to negotiate a new deal for Salah marks a departure from their previous policy of not offering contracts to players over 30.

In addition to Salah and Van Dijk, other Liverpool players like Ibrahima Konate are also in talks for new contracts, highlighting the club’s commitment to retaining key players.
