As the Masters kicks off in Augusta, Georgia, three legendary golfers graced the course as honorary starters. With a combined 11 green jackets and 140 starts at the Masters, Gary Player, Tom Watson, and Jack Nicklaus all believe that 2025 holds greatness for one player in particular.
Player confidently stated, “I think Rory McIlroy will win the Masters this year,” expressing his hope for another Grand Slam winner to uplift the golfing world. Watson echoed this sentiment, saying, “I just have a gut feeling that Rory is the guy that’s going to win this week.”
Amidst their annual post-shot news conference filled with nostalgia and wisdom, Nicklaus jokingly chimed in with a “Ditto.” The trio discussed various topics, from pace of play to Tiger Woods, but their focus ultimately settled on McIlroy’s potential victory.
McIlroy, who achieved four majors by age 25, has been on a quest for another major win since 2014. Nicklaus, after a recent discussion with McIlroy about the Augusta course, believes that the Irish golfer is primed for success this year.
“He’s got all the shots. He’s got all the game,” Nicklaus praised. However, Nicklaus did acknowledge defending champion Scottie Scheffler as a strong contender, stating, “Between the two of them, I think you’re going to find your winner.”
