‘Just grittiness’: Mikal Bridges steals Game 1 as Knicks out-tough Celtics

The Celtics were trailing 108-105 with three seconds left in overtime during Game 1 of the Eastern Conference semifinals. Derrick White’s inbound pass to Jaylen Brown was intercepted by Mikal Bridges, who made a crucial play to secure the win for the Knicks. Head coach Tom Thibodeau praised Bridges for his toughness and teamwork, highlighting the importance of such plays in playoff games. The Knicks’ desire and grittiness ultimately led them to steal the first game of the series.

Despite trailing by 20 points in the third quarter, the Knicks never gave up. They rallied together, chipping away at the deficit possession by possession. Jalen Brunson and OG Anunoby played key roles in the comeback, with Brunson showcasing his clutch performance. The team’s energy and relentless effort, particularly from players like Josh Hart, fueled their turnaround.

In overtime, Anunoby, Bridges, and Towns stepped up to secure the victory for the Knicks. While the team celebrated the win, they remained focused on the challenges ahead, knowing the Celtics will come back stronger in the next game. The Knicks are determined to stay focused, flush out the win, and continue to improve as they progress through the series.

The Celtics followed a strategic approach by attacking the paint early and expanding their offense late in the game, despite relying more on 3-pointers than drives.

On the other hand, the Knicks have their own winning formula: a combination of toughness, unity, and undeniable talent.

“Our team is like a tight-knit family, and we understand that we have each other’s backs,” shared Towns. “No matter how the game unfolds, we play with the mindset of supporting one another. We play for the brother standing beside us, giving our all on the court. Some days it may not be sufficient, but we take pride in knowing that we left everything out there.”

“There might not be a specific blueprint to success,” added Brunson, “but when we remain united, the possibilities are endless.”
