In a thrilling edition of the historic El Clásico showdown, Barcelona emerged victorious with a 4-3 win over Real Madrid, despite a remarkable hat trick from Madrid’s star forward, Kylian Mbappé.
Barcelona has been dominant in this rivalry as of late, securing four wins over Real Madrid this season, starting with a convincing 4-0 victory in La Liga back in October. Subsequent triumphs in the Supercopa de España and Copa del Rey have further solidified Barcelona’s supremacy in this campaign.
Mbappé opened the scoring with an early penalty in the fifth minute, capitalizing on an error that led to a spot-kick opportunity. He doubled his tally in the 14th minute with a clinical finish off an assist from Vinícius Júnior.
Barcelona quickly responded, with defender Eric Garcia finding the back of the net in the 19th minute. The Catalan side then went on a scoring spree, with 17-year-old sensation Lamine Yamal scoring in the 32nd minute, followed by two goals from Raphinha in quick succession in the 34th and 45th minutes.
Mbappé completed his hat trick with another goal in the 70th minute, bringing the score to 4-3. However, Real Madrid failed to breach Barcelona’s defense, with goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny making crucial saves to preserve the lead.
In a dramatic finale, Barcelona midfielder Fermín Lopez thought he had extended the lead in stoppage time, only for his goal to be disallowed due to a handball in the build-up. Barcelona settled for a narrow victory, securing bragging rights in El Clásico for another year.
Currently sitting atop the La Liga standings with 82 points, Barcelona is on the verge of clinching the league title with just one more win needed in the remaining three matches. Real Madrid trails in second place with 75 points, unable to catch up to their fierce rivals.
