Reds celebrate ‘Pete Rose Night’ after MLB all-time hits leader’s removal from ineligible list

Pete Rose has been removed from the MLB ineligible list, opening the possibility for him to be considered for the Hall of Fame. The Cincinnati Reds celebrated this momentous occasion with “Pete Rose Night,” which coincidentally was already scheduled for the day after the announcement.

The Reds went all out for the event, honoring the all-time hits leader with special warm-up shirts, a three-minute tribute video, and giving fans in attendance free replica road Rose jerseys. A standing ovation was also given to honor the late ballplayer.

Images were shared of red roses displayed around Rose’s statue at Great American Ball Park, and earlier in the day, Rose’s childhood baseball field was dedicated as Pete Rose Field. This comes after the Reds retired Rose’s No. 14 in 2016 with MLB’s approval, signaling a softer relationship between the league and the player in his later years.

Despite Rose’s controversial past, the decision to remove him from the ineligible list was seen as a vindication of his legacy. The next step for Rose would be induction into the Hall of Fame, though it remains to be seen how the Classic Baseball Era Committee will view his candidacy.

Rose’s path to the Hall of Fame has been complicated by his past actions, including betting on baseball and allegations of statutory rape. The decision now rests with a select group of individuals who will determine if Rose is truly worthy of baseball’s highest honor.
