Connor McDavid has committed to staying with the Edmonton Oilers for at least two more seasons, signing a two-year extension worth $12.5 million annually. This comes after the three-time NHL MVP was set to enter the final year of his contract with the team.
McDavid, who signed an eight-year extension with the Oilers in 2017, has solidified himself as the biggest star in the NHL, winning the Hart Memorial Trophy three times, including a unanimous MVP selection in 2020-21.
The first overall pick in the 2015 NHL Draft has led the league in points on six occasions and also topped the postseason scoring charts in 2023-24 and 2024-25. Despite his individual success, the Oilers have fallen short in the Stanley Cup Finals in both those seasons.
After losing to the Florida Panthers in seven games in 2024, the Oilers were defeated in six games by the same opponent in the following season.
However, McDavid’s quest to bring a Stanley Cup to Edmonton is far from over, as the 28-year-old has signed a contract that will keep him with the Oilers until the end of the 2027-28 season.
The Oilers will kick off their season with a home game against the Calgary Flames on Wednesday.
