2024 has been a rollercoaster season for the New York Mets, filled with ups and downs. From a rocky start to unexpected events like Jorge López’s glove-throwing incident and the introduction of a good luck charm known as Grimace, it’s been nothing short of eventful.

The latest buzz in Mets world revolves around infielder José Iglesias, also known as Candelita, who stole the show with a postgame concert following the team’s impressive 7-2 victory over the Houston Astros.

After securing their 12th win in 14 games, a crowd of 32,465 fans at Citi Field witnessed Iglesias, who joined the team on a minor league contract in December, perform his hit song “OMG” while still dressed in his uniform.

Not only did the Mets fans enjoy the performance, but Iglesias’ teammates and even the iconic Mr. and Mrs. Met joined him on the infield to show their support.

“That was a special moment,” Iglesias expressed, emphasizing that the performance was a testament to the team’s unity and camaraderie. “This group has become a family. It’s great. We have great human beings here. We are clicking, we care about each other and we are playing good baseball.”

Since his call up from Triple-A Syracuse on May 31, Iglesias has used “OMG” as his walkup song, coinciding with the team’s impressive 17-6 record and their close pursuit of a spot in the NL wild card race.

Originally set for a July release on streaming platforms, “OMG” was released a week ahead of schedule, reflecting Iglesias’ excitement and gratitude for the dreamlike turn of events.

“It’s hard to express what I feel right now,” Iglesias shared. “There is a lot of emotions. It was a great game. The guys get the job done one more time. It’s a dream come true. I’m very humble about it. … I’m floating right now.”
