Rafael Nadal has announced that he will be skipping Wimbledon this year to focus on clay-court training in preparation for the Paris Olympics in July.
The 22-time Grand Slam champion, who has won Wimbledon twice in the past, will be competing in both the men’s singles and doubles events at the Olympics alongside Carlos Alcaraz, the recent French Open winner.
Both the singles and doubles events at the Olympics will be held on the clay courts of Roland Garros, where Nadal will also be participating in the Nordea Open in Båstad, Sweden, as part of his Olympic preparations.
During a recent press conference at Roland Garros, Nadal revealed his decision to focus on clay-court tournaments in preparation for his last Olympics in Paris.
Explaining his decision to skip Wimbledon, Nadal mentioned that staying on clay would be best for his body as he aims for a second Olympic singles gold medal.
Nadal also confirmed his participation in the tournament in Bastad, Sweden, where he has previously enjoyed success both on and off the court.
After dealing with injuries over the past two years, including surgery in 2023, the 38-year-old Nadal is looking forward to making the most of his final year on the tour and is determined to add another Olympic gold to his collection.
Having won Wimbledon twice and being a three-time runner-up, Nadal’s focus is now on the Paris Olympics, which will take place from July 26 to August 11.
