Cameron Young delivered a remarkable performance at the Travelers Championship on Saturday, achieving a score of 59 in the third round of the tournament.

This achievement marks the 13th sub-60 round in PGA Tour history, propelling the 27-year-old American within striking distance of the lead despite starting the day 11 shots behind.

This sub-60 score is the first since 2020 when Scottie Scheffler carded a 59 at the Northern Trust tournament at TPC Boston. Scheffler, who struggled at the U.S. Open last week, is now tied for second place at 17-under after Round 3.

Young, teeing off several hours ahead of the leaders, racked up seven birdies, two eagles, and no bogeys over the course of 18 holes to finish at 11-under.

He sealed his historic score with a well-placed putt on the 18th hole.

In a post-round interview, Young expressed his surprise at his exceptional performance, stating, “I’ve had some mediocre results lately, but I feel like the golf I’ve played has been better than that, and to have a day like today where things start going in and it feels like I’m rewarded for good shots, it leaves me with a good taste in my mouth going into tomorrow.”

With a total of -13, Young briefly held the clubhouse lead, but the day concluded with Tom Kim maintaining the top spot at -18, followed by Scheffler and Akshay Bhatia tied for second just one stroke behind. Young is currently tied for 10th place as he heads into the final round.
