New York Mets outfielder Brandon Nimmo was briefly hospitalized on Monday after slipping and falling in his hotel room in Washington on Sunday.
Nimmo fainted in the bathroom of his hotel room, hitting his head and resulting in a noticeable “Harry Potter scar” on his forehead. Mets trainers were called immediately, assisting Nimmo and taking him to the hospital.
“Just a little Harry Potter scar,” Brandon Nimmo said.

“In the middle of the night he woke up, needed to go to the bathroom and slipped,” Mets manager Carlos Mendoza said, via The Associated Press. “Hit his forehead, so he’s got a pretty big cut.”
Nimmo remained in the hospital on Monday and was unable to play in the Mets’ 9-7 victory over the Nationals that evening. Despite not having a concussion, Nimmo did make it to Nationals Park for the start of the game.
It is uncertain how long Nimmo will be sidelined or if he will be able to return for Tuesday’s game. Jeff McNeil stepped in for Nimmo in left field on Monday.
“He went through all the tests this morning,” Mendoza stated. “We wanted to ensure we didn’t miss anything, and fortunately, all results were negative, so we were fortunate.”
At 31 years old, Nimmo is in his ninth season with the Mets and has a .247 batting average with 13 home runs and a team-leading 50 RBI this season.
Despite Nimmo’s absence, the Mets secured a 9-7 victory over the Nationals in extra innings on Monday night. J.D. Martinez began the extra inning with a three-run homer, followed by José Iglesias hitting a two-run homer after Francisco Álvarez’s RBI triple. Despite conceding four runs in the bottom of the inning, the Mets held on for the two-run win, bringing their season record to 41-41.
