The American men’s singles title drought has reached its 24th year, but there are several contenders aiming to break the streak.
World number nine Taylor Fritz will kick off his campaign in the second round, while Frances Tiafoe and Tommy Paul will enter the fray in the third round.

Last American to win Wimbledon men’s singles title
Pete Sampras clinched the last men’s singles title for an American at Wimbledon in 2000. This marked the culmination of American dominance at the All England Club, with Sampras securing seven finals in eight years. He claimed victory every year from 1993 to 2000, except for 1996.
In his final Wimbledon appearance, Sampras defeated 12th-seeded Patrick Rafter from Australia with a score of 6-7(12), 7-6(7), 6-4, 6-2.
Last U.S. man to make Wimbledon final
Andy Roddick was the last American to reach the men’s singles final at Wimbledon in 2009, following Sampras’ nine-year gap. Unfortunately, Roddick was defeated by Rafael Nadal in a thrilling match that ended 5-7, 7-6(8), 7-6(7), 3-6, 16-14.
Nadal’s victory not only secured the Wimbledon title but also broke Sampras’ Grand Slam record with his 15th major win.
Roddick had previously reached the final in 2004 and 2005, falling to Roger Federer on both occasions. He remains the most recent American man to claim a Grand Slam singles title, winning the 2003 US Open.

Last U.S. man to make Wimbledon semifinals
John Isner was the last American to reach the semifinals at Wimbledon in 2018. Despite a valiant effort, Isner succumbed to a 26-24 defeat in the fifth set against Kevin Anderson, who later lost to Novak Djokovic in the final.
Prior to Isner’s semifinal appearance, Sam Querrey reached the semis in the previous year, only to be defeated by Marin Cilic in four sets.
The last American man to reach the Wimbledon semifinals before Isner and Querrey was Andy Roddick, who had multiple semifinal appearances at the tournament.
Alongside his Wimbledon success, Roddick also made the semifinals in 2003, where he faced Federer once again. Andre Agassi was the only other American to reach this stage since Sampras, achieving the feat in 2000-01.
