Manchester United is closer to signing Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee after AC Milan decided to no longer pursue the Dutch international.
Milan had been leading contenders for Zirkzee’s signature earlier this summer, but they failed to finalize a deal before United showed strong interest. The Red Devils are now on the verge of securing a deal, with Milan director Zlatan Ibrahimovic confirming their shift in focus.
Ibrahimovic stated, “Zirkzee is the past. We have someone else in mind that we are focusing on. New signings will definitely happen, and discussions are ongoing.”
United has reached agreements on personal terms and agent fees with Zirkzee’s representatives, giving them a clear path to securing his signature.
The decision for United now lies in whether to activate Zirkzee’s £34m release clause upfront or negotiate a payment plan with Bologna for a larger fee spread over several years.
Meanwhile, Milan is exploring other options and is interested in Chelsea’s Armando Broja and Romelu Lukaku, with both players potentially available for transfer this summer.
Lukaku is valued at £37m, while Broja, who has attracted interest from Serie A clubs, could be secured for a slightly lower fee.
