Paul George recently left the Los Angeles Clippers after five seasons and signed a four-year, $212 million deal with the Philadelphia 76ers in free agency. In his podcast, “Podcast P,” George explained his decision and the contract negotiations with the Clippers.
Originally from Los Angeles, George expressed his desire to stay with the Clippers, but their initial offer of two years and $60 million last year was considered disrespectful. Despite improved proposals from the Clippers, they couldn’t reach an agreement, leading George to move on.
In his own words, George stated, “Just to put it out there, I never wanted to leave L.A. L.A. is home, this is where I wanted to finish at, and I wanted to work as hard as possible to win one in L.A.”
The Clippers are facing a major issue as their team has significantly declined in quality and they are lacking in flexibility. This puts them in a tough spot moving forward.
On the other hand, the Sixers capitalized on the strained relationship between George and the Clippers by acquiring the nine-time All-Star. This move has allowed them to form a formidable new trio with Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey. If this trio can stay healthy, they have the potential to be one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference next season and could pose a serious threat to teams like the Boston Celtics.
