Jalin Turner knocked down Renato Moicano at UFC 300, but failed to finish the fight.
The early prelims of the UFC’s highly anticipated event took an unexpected turn in the final bout. Turner, a lightweight fighter favored to win, initially dominated Moicano and caused damage, but lost control when Moicano executed a takedown.
After a brief moment on the ground, Turner got back up. However, in a crucial mistake, he believed he had secured victory with a powerful punch and walked away, allowing Moicano to recover and continue the fight.
Despite only having 18 seconds left in the round when Moicano was knocked down, it proved to be enough time for Moicano to regain his footing.
By the end of the second round, the tables had turned, with Moicano achieving a TKO victory, extending his winning streak to three fights.
In his post-fight interview, Moicano dismissed any notion of being seriously hurt, asserting his dominance with the statement, “Nobody can hurt me, I’m Money f***ing Moicano!” He also extended an invitation to UFC commentator Joe Rogan to appear on his new podcast, “Show Me The Money.”
The unexpected outcome of the fight not only marked a significant upset but also presented a marketing opportunity for Moicano, while serving as a valuable lesson for Turner.
Turner, who was in need of a win following two previous losses, will now have to regroup and work towards reclaiming his momentum in the lightweight division.
This setback at UFC 300 will undoubtedly motivate Turner to bounce back stronger in his future fights.
