Denver Nuggets rookie DaRon Holmes II is facing a setback as he is expected to sit out the entire 2024-25 NBA season due to a torn Achilles injury suffered during a summer league game against the Los Angeles Clippers. The injury occurred in the fourth quarter of the game when Holmes landed awkwardly on his right foot while defending against Kobe Brown. Despite his efforts to continue playing, Holmes had to be helped off the court and was later diagnosed with a torn Achilles tendon.
Prior to the injury, Holmes was showing promise in his summer league debut, scoring 11 points and grabbing seven rebounds in just 26 minutes of play. The 22-year-old forward was drafted by the Nuggets in the first round with the 22nd overall pick after a successful college career at Dayton.
Known for his defensive prowess and versatility on the court, Holmes was expected to be a valuable asset to the Nuggets, providing support to star player Nikola Jokić and contributing on both ends of the floor. However, with the severity of his injury, Holmes will have to focus on his recovery and rehabilitation before he can resume playing at the level expected of him.
While an Achilles injury can be challenging to overcome, especially for a young player like Holmes, the hope is that he will be able to return to the court stronger and continue to fulfill his potential in the NBA. The Nuggets will have to adjust their plans for the upcoming season without Holmes, but his long-term development and future contributions to the team remain a priority.
