Jesus Navas reflects on his illustrious career as he prepares for his final game with the Spanish national team. The 38-year-old wing-back will be stepping aside for Dani Carvajal as La Roja faces England in Berlin’s Olympiastadion on Sunday night.
Navas, who has played over 500 games for Sevilla and had a stint at Manchester City, has enjoyed a successful 15-year international career, winning the World Cup in 2010, the Euros in 2012, and the Nations League last year.
Speaking to uefa.com, Navas shared, “For me, it’s been the absolute maximum you could achieve. It was the dream I had as a little boy – to enjoy playing for Spain, to give everything for my national team.”
Looking back at his victorious UEFA Cup final against Middlesbrough in 2006, Navas expressed his desire to recreate that feeling against England, a team he knows well from his time in the Premier League.
As he gears up for the final, Navas emphasized the strong bond within the squad and his hope to bring joy to the country with a win. He admitted to feeling emotional about the prospect of his final game and the possibility of lifting the trophy.
