In 1999, the All-Star Futures Game began as a showcase for baseball’s top prospects, kicking off All-Star weekend with a seven-inning exhibition. Fast forward to 2024, MLB added a new twist to the event: a hitting competition featuring eight young hitters displaying their offensive skills over three rounds.

Let’s highlight five standout performers from the All-Star Saturday at Globe Life Field:

Red Sox outfielder Roman Anthony stole the show by winning the Skills Showcase. Despite a slow start in the first two rounds, he turned heads in the final round by launching a series of home runs to claim the top spot. Known for his overall offensive prowess, Anthony’s display of power was a pleasant surprise for the crowd.

Cam Collier, a third baseman for the Reds, showcased his potential with a home run in the Futures Game. While he struggles against left-handed pitchers, his raw power and offensive capabilities make him a player to watch in the coming years.

Mets pitcher Brandon Sproat impressed with his blazing fastballs, touching 99.2 mph in the Futures Game. With a stellar performance in the minors this season, Sproat is on track to become a top prospect in New York’s farm system.

A’s pitcher Luis Morales, known for his high velocity and sharp breaking pitches, demonstrated his skills on the mound. With the highest signing bonus among pitchers in his class, Morales has the potential to make a significant impact in Oakland’s pitching rotation.

Braves catcher Drake Baldwin showed off his power with a mammoth home run in the Futures Game. Climbing the minor league ranks swiftly, Baldwin has emerged as a promising bat in Atlanta’s farm system.
