In his debut Summer League game, Reed Sheppard, the No. 3 pick in the NBA Draft, showcased his skills against the Lakers, finishing with an impressive stat line of 23 points, five assists, four rebounds, and three blocks in the Rockets’ 99-80 victory. His performance solidified his potential as one of the top players in his draft class.

Speaking after the game, Sheppard expressed his excitement about the win and his growing comfort on the court. He attributed his success to a strong week of practice leading up to the game.

Sheppard continued his stellar play in his second game against the Wizards, going head-to-head with fellow top picks Alex Sarr and Bub Carrington. Despite Carrington’s strong performance, Sheppard stood out once again with 22 points, seven assists, six rebounds, and five steals.

Throughout the games, Sheppard displayed his ability to adapt to NBA spacing, play with patience and pace, and contribute on both ends of the court. His versatility and skill set have caught the attention of NBA players like Trae Young and his future Rockets teammates.

With his impressive showing in the Summer League, Sheppard is proving to be more than just a role player. He has the potential to become a franchise starting guard, showcasing his playmaking, shooting, and defensive abilities.

Coach Garrett Jackson praised Sheppard’s comfort on the court and his quick development, highlighting his growth since his time at Kentucky. Sheppard credits his teammates and the team’s spacing for allowing him more freedom to showcase his talents.

Teammate Cam Whitmore, last year’s Summer League MVP, has been impressed by Sheppard’s all-around game and chemistry on the court. Whitmore’s guidance and support have helped Sheppard excel in his early NBA career.
