The groups for the 2024 NBA Cup were disclosed on Friday. These groups are categorized by conference and drawn randomly based on the win-loss records from the previous regular season. The format of the NBA Cup involves all 30 teams being divided into groups of five within their conference. Each team will play four designated Group Play games on “Cup Nights,” facing each opponent in its group once – two games at home and two on the road.
Following the Group Play stage, eight teams will advance to the knockout rounds. These eight teams will be determined by the ones with the best standings in their respective groups, along with two wild card entries. The knockout rounds will feature single-elimination games in each team’s respective market before transitioning to Las Vegas for the semifinals and championship in mid-December.
While the games in the NBA Cup will count towards the regular season standings, the championship finale will not. Although the groups for the 2024 NBA Cup have been announced, the television schedule is yet to be finalized. The games will be broadcast nationally, but the full schedule will only be released in August.
