Here at Bleeding Green Nation, we’ve been closely following ESPN’s positional ranking series. The latest article from a NFL insider survey focuses on quarterbacks, a topic that always stirs up some debate!
Last year, Jalen Hurts was ranked as the sixth best quarterback in the league by a group of executives, coaches, coordinators, and scouts. However, this year he didn’t make the top 10 cut. Instead, he was listed in the “honorable mentions” section alongside other quarterbacks like Brock Purdy, Jordan Love, Tua Tagovailoa, Kirk Cousins, and Trevor Lawrence.
The write-up on Hurts mentioned a dip in performance in 2023, attributed to a knee injury that affected his play. Evaluators noted that the Eagles’ offense became predictable, impacting Hurts’ performance.
Jeremy Fowler, who conducted the survey, explained Hurts’ drop in rankings due to injuries and the ineffective offense led by Nick Sirianni last season.
Looking ahead to the 2024 season, there’s optimism that Hurts will bounce back, especially with a new offensive coordinator in Kellen Moore. However, there’s also a concern that he may not reach the elite level some expect him to.
Despite the uncertainties, Hurts is still young at 25 years old and has shown flashes of brilliance on the field. There’s a possibility that he could reclaim his spot among the top 10 quarterbacks in future rankings.
