Eddie Howe is keen to continue his tenure at Newcastle United, but only if it aligns with his vision and the club’s best interests, amidst rumors that he is a frontrunner to take over Gareth Southgate as the England manager.
Howe indicated that he is adopting a cautious approach at Newcastle, especially with the recent appointments of sporting director Paul Mitchell and performance director James Bunce since the end of the previous season.
When asked about his future at the club, Howe stated during the pre-season trip to Germany, “As long as I feel supported and free to work in my preferred manner, I am open to staying. My happiness and ability to perform my job effectively are crucial factors for me.”
He emphasized the importance of the right dynamic between himself and the club, stating that if the conditions are not conducive, it wouldn’t serve Newcastle well for him to stay.
Reflecting on the recent changes at St James’ Park, including the sale of young talents to comply with financial regulations and the departure of key figures, Howe acknowledged the challenges but expressed his commitment to ensuring Newcastle’s strength for the upcoming season.
While being considered for the England managerial position, Howe clarified that his focus remains on his current role at Newcastle, emphasizing his love for the country but not feeling a burning desire to take on the national team job.
With uncertainties surrounding the club’s direction and his own future, Howe reiterated his dedication to Newcastle’s success above personal ambitions, highlighting the importance of unity and collaboration within the team.
