Kim Ng, the former general manager of the Miami Marlins, has taken on a new role by joining the National Baseball Hall of Fame’s board of directors, as announced by the Hall of Fame on Friday.
Ng made history in 2020 by becoming the first female general manager in MLB. She spent three successful years with the Marlins before stepping down from her position last year.
The Hall of Fame released a statement where board chairman Jane Forbes Clark expressed her warm welcome to Ng, acknowledging her valuable perspective in contributing to the growth of the game.
Clark stated, “As a trailblazing team officer and general manager, Kim’s vision has brought new perspective and ideas to the National Pastime, qualities that will serve the Hall of Fame well as we continue to enhance our mission.”
In response, Ng expressed her “honor” in joining the nonprofit organization. She shared, “I am grateful for the opportunity to serve the institution that preserves and celebrates baseball. The Hall of Fame’s mission is something that is close to my heart, and I feel privileged to be able to give something back to the game that has given me so much.”
After parting ways with the Marlins in October, Ng declined a mutual contract option, leading to reports indicating that Miami planned to hire a president of baseball operations over Ng, causing discontent within the front office plans.
Ng’s groundbreaking position as the highest-ranking female executive in men’s professional sports in the U.S. led the Marlins to their first playoff appearance since 2003 during her tenure. Recently, Ng also took on a role as a senior adviser with Athletes Unlimited, overseeing the development of the Athletes Unlimited Softball League.
With her latest appointment, Ng becomes the 17th member of the board, which includes prominent figures in baseball such as MLB commissioner Rob Manfred, and legendary players like Ken Griffey Jr. and Cal Ripken Jr.
