Padres trade offer for White Sox ace was ‘quickly dismissed’, per insider

Looking to strengthen their starting rotation, the San Diego Padres have reportedly made a bid for one of the top pitchers in the American League.

As per Bob Nightengale of USA Today Sports, the Padres have made an offer to the Chicago White Sox for ace Garrett Crochet ahead of the MLB trade deadline.

However, Nightengale mentioned that the offer was swiftly rejected.

The Padres are currently facing uncertainty at the top of their rotation with Joe Musgrove dealing with elbow issues and Yu Darvish away from the team for personal reasons.

With Dylan Cease still leading the rotation, it is understandable why the Padres are looking to add another ace to their pitching staff.

This season, Crochet has been a standout performer in the American League, recording 150 strikeouts and a 3.02 ERA in 107.1 innings over 20 starts.

With the worst record in MLB at 27-71, the White Sox are anticipated to be major sellers at the deadline. They are likely to receive a significant return for Crochet, who is only 25 years old and under team control until 2026.

As the deadline approaches, the Padres are at a critical juncture in their season, and their decisions in the trade market will be closely watched.
