In the ongoing 2024 Paris Olympics, Joel Embiid has been facing challenges on the basketball court. However, a recent statement made by him has stirred up more controversy.
The renowned Philadelphia 76ers player recently had a conversation with The New York Times, where he shared his thoughts on Team USA’s chances of winning the gold medal.
“When you look at the level of talent that the United States possesses, it’s undeniable. But it’s essential to acknowledge that other teams also have remarkable talent,” Embiid expressed to David Marchese of The New York Times. “Many of the players on the U.S. team are getting older. The current LeBron James is not the same as the LeBron from a few years back. There’s a noticeable difference. It’s evident to everyone that the explosive and dominant LeBron of the past is not the same player we see today. People tend to be swayed by the star-studded lineup on paper, but these players have evolved over the years and are now in a different phase of their careers.”
While it’s reasonable to assess the competition realistically, singling out LeBron James by name seems peculiar. The veteran Los Angeles Lakers player, along with the other experienced talents on Team USA, has not shown any significant signs of decline. This is a key factor why they are considered the frontrunners for the gold medal, given their track record of success.
