The New York Yankees have made a strategic lineup change, giving rookie Austin Wells the opportunity to shine in the heart of the batting order.
With Alex Verdugo struggling in the cleanup spot, the Yankees have decided to move Wells into the fourth position to provide protection for Aaron Judge.
Catcher Austin Wells will now bat cleanup behind Ben Rice, Juan Soto, and Judge at the top of the lineup.

Verdugo has struggled in the cleanup role this season, with a .222 batting average, six home runs, and 30 RBI in 208 plate appearances, resulting in a .626 OPS.
On the other hand, Wells has been impressive since June, hitting .232 with five home runs, an .835 OPS, and a 139 wRC+ in 25 games.
The Yankees are looking for someone to provide protection for Judge in the lineup, and Wells could be the answer to that need.
