Jordan Love to hold out of camp until he signs a new deal with Packers

The deadline for a new contract extension between the Green Bay Packers and quarterback Jordan Love has arrived, but as of now, no agreement has been reached. Packers general manager Brian Gutekunst has indicated that this could lead to a holdout situation for Love.

When asked about the possibility of a deal being reached in the next few days, Gutekunst expressed optimism, stating, “I think so.” He emphasized that both parties have the same goal in mind.

According to Gutekunst, Love’s representatives informed the team that Love will not participate in practice until his extension is finalized. The general manager acknowledged Love’s position, understanding the significant financial stakes involved. It’s understandable that Love would want to protect his future earnings.

Despite the contract negotiations, Love has reported to training camp, attended meetings, and will be present at practice. This situation is more of a “hold-in” rather than a traditional holdout, reflecting a new approach by players in contract disputes.

With Love absent from practice, head coach Matt LaFleur mentioned that snaps at quarterback will be divided between Sean Clifford and Michael Pratt.

Hopefully, a resolution will be reached soon to avoid prolonged disruptions. Any updates on the contract negotiations are likely to be announced during the Packers’ shareholders meeting at Lambeau Field.
