Over the past four seasons, Reddick has consistently been among the top pass rushers in the league, recording a minimum of 11 sacks each year. The Jets acquired him in March in exchange for a 2026 third-round pick that could potentially upgrade to a second-round pick based on certain criteria.
Reddick’s desire for a new contract was a significant factor that led to his availability for trade. The Eagles were unwilling to meet his contract demands.
By holding out, Reddick is facing a daily fine of $50,000. He had already incurred fines for skipping the mandatory minicamp earlier in the offseason.
It is surprising how the Jets allowed the situation to escalate to this point. It was widely known across the league that Reddick was seeking a new deal. Rarely do we see a high-profile player being traded only to immediately enter a contract dispute and holdout.
Despite the standoff, there is still a significant financial incentive for Reddick to play this season, with a salary exceeding $14 million at stake if he chooses not to participate. Nonetheless, the handling of this situation by the Jets leaves many questioning their decision-making.
