The Jacksonville Jaguars have inked a lucrative four-year, $76.5 million contract extension with $53.4 million guaranteed for cornerback Tyson Campbell, reported by NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.
Campbell now holds the title of “the highest-paid CB in NFL history who has yet to be named to a Pro Bowl.”

The contract elevates Campbell to the seventh-highest-paid player in his position in annual salary ($19.125 million) according to Over The Cap. He joins the ranks of Jaire Alexander, Denzel Ward, Jalen Ramsey, Marlon Humphrey, Marshon Lattimore, and Trevon Diggs in earning top dollar per year.
“Tyson is a young, talented player who is an integral part of our defense and core member of our locker room,” stated Jaguars general manager Trent Baalke. “He is a consummate professional on and off the field and we are confident that his best lies ahead. We have consistently messaged the importance of extending our core players and this is another step forward in honoring that commitment.”
“I’m blessed to stay in Jacksonville and thankful God is allowing me to continue building something special with my brothers on the field and in the community,” expressed Campbell. “I want to thank the Jaguars for making my NFL dreams come true three years ago and for still believing in me today.”
Selected as the 33rd pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, Campbell is part of a promising draft class for the Jaguars alongside Trevor Lawrence (first overall pick), Travis Etienne (25th), Walker Little (45th), and Andre Cisco (65th). The team’s draft class is shaping up to be one of the franchise’s most successful, with Campbell being the second member to secure a second deal following Lawrence’s five-year extension in June.
Having played 45 career games in three seasons, including playoffs, with 44 consecutive starts, Campbell has showcased his consistency on the field. Despite facing challenges like a toe injury in 2021 and soft-tissue injuries in 2023, he has remained a key player for the Jaguars.
Campbell’s national recognition may be lacking, given his absence from the Pro Bowl and lower rankings in cornerback evaluations by Pro Football Network and PFF. However, he has demonstrated his skills with 30 pass deflections and has room for improvement in certain areas, such as man coverage techniques. Despite this, analytics indicate that Campbell excels as a zone corner in the league.
In 2022, Campbell led the league in yards allowed per coverage snap in zone coverage and ranked highly in various metrics, showcasing his potential as a top-tier cornerback.
Campbell’s ability to disrupt plays when focused on the quarterback is a valuable asset for the Jaguars’ defense.
With his exceptional coverage skills, Campbell allows the Jaguars to deploy additional defenders on the field, creating a strategic advantage that sets them apart from other teams.
The Jaguars have recognized Campbell’s talent and potential, making him one of the team’s highest-paid players. This investment reflects their confidence in his abilities and the belief that he will continue to excel on the field.
As Campbell progresses in his career, his impact on the team and the league is expected to grow, potentially solidifying his reputation as one of the premier cornerbacks in the NFL.
