Two experienced UFC fighters, Ovince Saint Preux and Ryan Spann, are scheduled to face off on September 7th in a three-round light heavyweight showdown at UFC Vegas 97.
The news was confirmed by MMA Fighting’s Damon Martin on Monday, following an initial report by MMA Junkie.
Saint Preux, with a record of 27-17, is a former contender for the UFC interim light heavyweight title. The 41-year-old veteran is returning to the 205-pound division after a stint at heavyweight, where he secured victories over Kennedy Nzechukwu and Mauricio Rua but suffered defeats to Philipe Lins and Tanner Boser.
Having been with the UFC since 2013, Saint Preux has triumphed in 15 of his 27 fights in the octagon and holds impressive wins over Alonzo Menifield, Corey Anderson, and Nikita Krylov.
Spann, boasting a record of 21-10, is aiming to bounce back after three consecutive losses to Krylov, Anthony Smith, and Bogdan Guskov. Since his debut on Contender Series, the 32-year-old has won seven out of his 12 UFC fights, earning quick finishes against Antonio Rogerio Nogueira, Dominick Reyes, and Ion Cutelaba.
UFC Vegas 97 will be held at the UFC APEX in Las Vegas, with a welterweight clash between Gilbert Burns and Sean Brady headlining the event.
